While his faith and love for God remain unwavering, Drille revealed that he never truly felt his signature sound fit within the traditional Christian framework that shaped his early years.

The Mavin Maestro’s Ministry Roots

Believe it or not, the soulful storyteller started as a music director in church, directing the choir. Speaking on the CreativiTEA Podcast, Drille admitted that this experience was instrumental in shaping him into the musician he is today. His unique style, which blends Folk elements with R&B and Pop, offers soothing melody and excellent writing. However, this distinct creative style did not fit the typical worship mold.

The Backlash and the Love Song Lament

The transition led to some friction, as Drille revealed he occasionally receives backlash from the Christian community when performing in church settings. He defends his Alternative music, noting that it is positive and addresses good things that the church sometimes avoids discussing.

Drille pinpointed a specific gap, criticizing the church for shying away from discussions about love. He lamented that at many Christian weddings, attendees hear songs by secular stars like Davido and Wizkid, prompting him to ask: “What if the church decides that we want to start doing our own Christian love songs?” For Drille, there is a place for worship music, but there’s “so much more” that the church could be singing about.
